Things I wish I knew when I started blogging.

I started my blogging in 2014 and now we’re here almost 4.5 years later. Still going strong. However, I wish I knew certain things when I started blogging.   But as a blogger in 2014, I have gone through phases of knowing something to knowing nothing about blogging. And sometimes you need that helping hand to make you understand or at least give you an overview on how things actually are.

1. It’s not how it looks.

Oh well, you’ve started blogging looking at Zoella and Tanya Burr, but guess what it’s not how it looks. It seems glamorous and fun but you have to really put in the effort to form your own voice and make a statement. Sure it feels great to receive a paycheck and goodies but the thought process and actually receiving an income will take longer than you thought.

2. Things are going to change. Make sure you’re up to date.

We are living in the 21st century and things are evolving every single day. Blogging we have bloggers, Youtube we have Youtubers and from Instagram, we have Instagrammers or Influencers. With a blink of an eye we had Insta stories taking over, now we have IGTV what’s next? Don’t know. But what I know is you have to be ready and show up. You just can’t stay at once place and dominate or stand out. You have to go everywhere and try out different things to see which one actually work for you. This industry is very fast paced and evolving day by day.   You have to catch up on everything or you’ll feel stuck.

3. Make Friends don’t overthink.

Making friends and talking to people isn’t scary for me now in 2018 as it was in 2014. I have anxiety and meeting new people always terrified me more than anything. Literally typing this made my stomach hurt lol. But looking back I’m not that disappointed in myself. I have made so many beautiful amazing friends for a lifetime via blogging. I just wish I didn’t overthink much and would just go for it.

4. No one is going to show up for you.

Really. This hit home to me. This is your blog. No one and I mean literally, no one is going to show up for you, you have to be there for yourself and just go for it. If it’s something that you love what’s stopping you?

5. Not everyone wants to help you.

This industry is huge and growing every single day, you might find the absolute best and the sweetest people but also people who might not be that helpful and that’s okay. They love to keep their secrets to themselves. So be better at knowing people.
